About Us
The Ophthalmic Trade and Industry Conference, (OPTIC UK) was formed in 1983 by senior executives within
the UK ophthalmology industry. It has since then continued to grow into one of the most successful
trade associations within UK healthcare. Its membership varies a little from year to year but usually averages at around 50.
The key purpose of Optic UK remains to this day the same as the principles laid out by those founding members forty years ago. Their vision was to not just act as a trade association inregulatory and business matters, but also to represent the whole of the industry to the medical community and in particular the organisers of major medical meetings such as the
Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
It is in this way that the uniqueness of Optic UK as a trade association helps our members both large and
small have equal opportunity when it comes to participation in such important ophthalmological congresses.
Optic UK is also a member of ABHI (The Association of British Health Tech Industries) through which our members
gain the benefit of representation and information from government, NHS and regulatory bodies.
As Optic UK we agree to abide by both the ABHI and ABPI code of conduct
which ensures that all of our members act in accordance with the latest regulations
on product promotion in the UK healthcare market.
Membership of Optic UK gives all members, whether they be large multi-national companies or smaller UK only organisations,
the opportunity of participating in major Ophthalmology exhibitions at beneficial rates along with,
associate membership of ABHI, and perhaps just as importantly, the ability to tap into advice
and be independently represented at the highest levels within medical bodies and in the UK healthcare marketplace.
